The life of a Seven Brides Groupie is that of a beer princess…. like an ordinary girl’s dream come true! On Thursday July 28th, I (G1) donned my hop crown and met up with G2 (Linda aka GG), her husband- Mike, Phill, Josiah and Paul for the Oregon Brewers Festival in Portland.
We rallied at the Crystal Ballroom for brunch and brews before the parade at noon. I was nearly met at the door by Josiah and GG. I was promptly hugged and handed a bright orange T-Shirt and my OBF mug with McMenamins IPA already in it. (Hello!) I was shocked at the number of people already there! Everyone wants to know who you are, what brewery you represent and talk beer. Introductions begin…. ‘Seven Brides in Silverton’ Swig… French toast… ‘Hi I’m Heidi’ Swig… bite of muffin… swig… egg… swig… it was like being in a washing machine of breakfast and beer enthusiasts!
After meeting and greeting- Parade time! We flooded the street, already safeguarded by police and barricades. Traffic was stopped for blocks and onlookers waved as Hammerheads, Monks and a sea of orange T-shirted screamers escorted the OBF beer kegs to the waterfront park. Kegs were tapped, beer lords were worshiped… I tried a lot of beer, laughed my face off and steered everyone toward my ‘home beer’… Seven Brides Lil’s Pils.
I had only one objective: Start and end with Seven Brides!
Thank you to Seven Brides for covering the costs, holding my hand and honoring me with an inside peek at what I call ‘beer love for the masses.’ The day was perfect… (even though the Hop Czar didn’t fall in love with me and take me back to his hop castle to rule the land….) I was a Seven Brides Beer Princess for a day and for that I am forever grateful!
I updating my Facebook page as the day went on… and boy howdy it went on! As many tastes as I could document were sent into cyber space and landed on my home page with complementary pictures and commentary. For your viewing pleasure, I have collected them in one place and laughed again at my spelling, brief narrative and overall silliness… enjoy!
